RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES TRAILERS AND VIDEOS
EXTENDED FOUR-MINUTE FILM CLIP IN 480p HD QUALITY
UPDATED 7/18/11 — Today Yahoo Movies debuted an exclusive, extended four-minute film clip "Kitchen Table/Neighbor Fight" from RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES introduced by Andy Serkis, the actor providing the performance-capture character work that brings revolution-leading ape Caesar to life in the film. This clip is the best, most unblinking look at Serkis' work so far, presented in its complete dramatic context as Caesar takes violent action to protect Charles Rodman (John Lithgow), one of the humans who helped raise the ape.
The results are impressive, far exceeding the basic threshold of blending a CG-created ape into live-action photography, but achieving one of the most realistic characters to ever appear on screen via such creative means. This clip also underscores how director Rupert Wyatt is emphasizing Caesar's character as central to the storytelling of the eventual ape uprising against humanity, and is not relying on CG magic to create mere visual spectacle for the screen. We've said it before but we're saying it again: the more FilmEdge sees of RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES, the more it impresses us with its dramatic potential in addition to its prequel status in one of the most influential cinematic series of the 20th century. Watch this involving new film clip and share your comments on the FilmEdge Blog.
By the way, fans of the PLANET OF THE APES film franchise will enjoy the 'Easter Egg' reference seen quietly in the clip as the hybrid intelligent ape Caesar assembles a small model of the Statue of Liberty in his attic room. This is a subtle callback to the ending of the original PLANET OF THE APES film from 1968, in which Charlton Heston's character discovers the horrible truth about the origins of the Ape world in which he's trapped.
