UPDATED 12.22.2011 — The countdown ends and the full first trailer for Ridley Scott‘s sci-fi epic PROMETHEUS is now online at iTunes and available for viewing in HD. The trailer’s release also confirms FilmEdge’s previous article which included on observer’s detailed description of the trailer’s scenes a day before it premiered. Feel free to compare the description while watching the trailer below and you’ll see how close, for the most part, the two match — though all those “dark scenes” that were hard to describe seem quite clear in this official trailer video.
Perhaps the most interesting aspect of the description to be confirmed is that the Space Jockey derelict ship seen in ALIEN does indeed appear in PROMETHEUS — and it is indeed standing on-end in the trailer! Those "towers" described are obviously the curving 'arms' of the same ship, and you can easily see the three oval entry hatches which were prominently visible when the Nostromo crew entered the ship in ALIEN.
Of course, it's entirely possible that this ship we see is not on Acheron/LV 426, but rather another identical ship from the Space Jockey race of beings on another planet.
Also intriguing is the visual similarity between the Amphora chamber with the huge stone face and the layout of the xenomorph's egg chamber beneath the derelict ship on Acheron in ALIEN. It would appear that one race of creatures is copying or perhaps paying tribute to another in this crossover of chamber designs with the alien's eggs and the amphora jars set out before an "altar" or such.
In any case, while a bit shorter than we hoped, this first trailer for Ridley Scott's PROMETHEUS looks fantastic and is a highly intriguing preview of things to come.
