FilmEdge has added this new theatrical trailer for THE WOLFMAN which takes a much more modernist approach to marketing the film in the twangy electric guitar score and faster editing. Frankly I preferred the style and tone of the teaser trailer, since the origins of this story better resemble the concept of a mythological fable about a man cursed to become a murderous creature. The teaser wove this tale slowly and suspensively, while this new theatrical trailer more resembles typical studio marketing than an old world fable about bloodthirsty man-monsters. Indeed, this preview seems to ensure the concept that this curse is a family affliction, especially with the hirsute presence of Anthony Hopkins practically training Benicio Del Toro in his new wolfen ways.
The new shots and scenes included here look very promising for those of us yearning to see Rick Baker's vision of THE WOLFMAN creature. The blend of CG and makeup effects continue to impress as the next generation beyond Baker's landmark transformations in AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON. While I'm not wild about the style of this new trailer, I certainly like what we're seeing and FilmEdge looks forward to February with great anticipation. |
