FilmEdge receives second TRON: LEGACY viral postcard announcing return of Flynn's Arcade to Comic-Con

July 12 2010 — Today FilmEdge received our second vintage-looking postcard from the FlynnLives program, advertising ENCOM's arcade game D-Con 4. A sticker on this new postcard annonces "Don't miss Flynn's Arcade 7/22-24" which not only implies that Disney's off-site ARG venue returns to Comic-Con this July, but that the blacklight-dot code strips on the postcards may well be scanned at the Arcade, perhaps unlocking the code and opening a new phase of the Alternate Reality Game. Scans of this new postcard:

This follows our first postcard, Arc Wars, which started the postal viral marketing phase of these cards.

There's another blacklight-readable dot code strip on the D-Con card, and it contains many more dots than the Arc Wars card did. Game player speculation theorized that the dot patters from all four previous cards would spell out a coded message in bit form (with the phrase ENCOMGAMESECTOR being one possible solution). Hypotheses proposed that codes from new cards would complete the code message when overlaid on top of the prior four patters. But with the high number of dots on this new D-Con card code strip, this may not work.

The new dots from the D-Con card are in blue, the existing overlay of the previous four postcards seen as black dots:

With some work and suggestions via the Unfiction forum, the postcard solution has been deciphered as ENCOMGAMESDOTJP, which now leads to a new international ENCOM JAPAN website with a new game, CIRCUIT CYCLES.

UPDATE: FilmEdge has learned that another new card of SPACE PARANOIDS has been received by ARG players today.  It's now quite possible that these two cards will provide enough dots to successfully decode the hidden message.  FilmEdge's D-Con 4 card fills in quite a lot of the left side of the message -- apparently reading ENCOMGAME... -- but much of the right side of the message is still incomplete.  We're hoping that the SPACE PARANOIDS dots focus on filling in this right side of the code.

Meanwhile, those attending Comic-Con 2010 can look forward to another visit to Flynn's Arcade in San Diego this year!

Here's the postcard game description for D-Con 4:

The dimensions of good and evil have never been so clearly defined. It is your mission to defend humankind from an onslaught of lasers, raining down on our home planet with venomous accuracy. Are you prepared?
