Today Paramount finally released the official SUPER 8 story synopsis, and per writer/director J.J. Abrams' desire for continued secrecy on the film, it tells us little more than we've known for months. Granted, studio synopses are traditionally short in length and underwritten in content, but Paramount and Abrams are conspiratorially tight-lipped with his upcoming sci-fi/thriller about a 1979 train wreck which unleashes a mysterious terror on a small town in Ohio. With that in mind, have a read — have two, it'll go quickly:
In the summer of 1979, a group of friends in a small Ohio town witness a catastrophic train crash while making a super 8 movie and soon suspect that it was not an accident. Shortly after, unusual disappearances and inexplicable events begin to take place in town, and the local Deputy tries to uncover the truth - something more terrifying than any of them could have imagined.
Directed by J.J. Abrams from his original script, the Amblin Entertainment and Bad Robot Production film is produced by Steven Spielberg, Abrams and Bryan Burk.
The film stars Elle Fanning, Kyle Chandler, Ron Eldard, Noah Emmerich, Gabriel Basson, Joel Courtney, Ryan Lee, Zach Mills and Amanda Michalka.
SUPER 8 is in theaters June 10.
Watch for the SUPER 8 theatrical trailer to debut with BATTLE: LOS ANGELES in theaters this weekend. FilmEdge will post the SUPER 8 trailer in digital video as soon as Paramount makes it available to us. |
