Celebration V video of Star Tours shutdown ceremony in Orlando
August 19, 2010 —For those fans who didn't attend Star Wars Celebration V in Orlando this past weekend, Disney Imagineering and Lucasfilm invited some special guests to close out the event and Star Tours 1.0. C-3PO and R2D2 join Imagineer Tom Brooks on stage to shut down the Star Wars-themed ride simulator in its 20-year-old configuration and make way for the updated Prequel-era 3D attraction for 2011.
But a disturbance in the Force heralds the appearance of Darth Vader, who wants to dispense with the pleasantries and get the new Star Tours back on schedule, insisting "The Mouse is more forgiving than I am!" Stormtroopers and bounty hunter Boba Fett close out Star Tours with a bang.
Note: the Star Tours attraction at Disney's Hollywood Studios actually closes on September 8, 2010 – this special staged event was created for Celebration V attendees only. Star Tours: The Adventure Continues will re-open in Disney's Anaheim and Orlando theme parks in 2011. Video courtesy of Orlando Attractions Magazine.
