April 22, 2011 — Watch the new PIRATES of the CARIBBEAN television spot 'Die Trying'
This very action-oriented TV spot emphasizes the more dangerous side of PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES, clearly pitting Johnny Depp's Captain Jack Sparrow against the infamous Blackbeard (Ian McShane) in a deadly race to find the mythical Fountain of Youth. The woman from Jack's past and Blackbeard's daughter Angelica (Penelope Cruz) stands and fights and engages in battles of wit between them while establishing her own pirate personality. March 21, 2011 — First look and analysis of the new PIRATES of the CARIBBEAN trailer
The crew at Disney just sent FilmEdge a first look at the new PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES full-length trailer which debuts today on Yahoo Movies. Johnny Depp is in top form during this new 2:19 trailer offers a much deeper look at Jack Sparrow's quest for the Fountain of Youth, some hints at Blackbeard (Ian McShane) commandeering Sparrow's ship The Black Pearl, and how the mythical, mysterious mermaids fit into Jack's mission to find the fountain.
Containing a boatload of new scenes and never-before-shown clips and action, you'll get better looks at the mermaids in all their aquatic beauty and danger, plus plenty of sword-clashing, carriage-chasing action with Jack's escape in London and confronting Blackbeard. More new shots reveal what a terror Blackbeard's ship, the Queen Anne's Revenge, must be on the open seas as it bristles with cannons and is armed with flame-throwing guns on its dagger-like bow, ready to incinerate any foe in its path. Even Hector Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush), who has now joined the King's navy with peg leg under him, fears Blackbeard as a ruthless scourge of the seas.
The mermaids certainly resemble the oceanic sirens their legend depicts, but they also are dangerous adversaries as an extended shot glimpsed previously shows one mermaid leaping out of the water and over a rowboat to snatch a sailer off his feet and under the water. While Jack may attempt to beguile a mermaid into helping him find the Fountain of Youth, the romance of the film clearly takes place between the missionary Philip (Sam Claflin) and the captured mermaid Syrena (Astrid Berges-Frisbey) forced to unlock the Fountain's magical properties.
Speaking of which, take note of how the Fountain of Youth's water defies gravity, as a quick shot early in the trailer shows Jack bobbling a water droplet under his fingers like a tiny balloon trying to float up from his hand, while another very short clip shows Jack in a torch-lit cave diving upwards into a pool of water collected over his head!
