FilmEdge
reviews the HALLOWEEN: 25 YEARS OF TERROR documentary
from Anchor Bay Entertainment.

Caught
between the 25th anniversary resurgence of the HALLOWEEN
franchise and the signing of Rob Zombie to re-imagine
the Michael Myers saga, this solid documentary set bridges
the past and the future of the series.
HALLOWEEN
25 certainly deserves a place in the DVD library of
any Myers-series or general horror fan, though as with
any such review of cinema history, it tends to preach
to the choir who already know much about the material
in it.
Still,
the unparalleled dense collection of HALLOWEEN info,
cast and crew interviews, plus coverage of the 2003
Pasadena convention make it a must-purchase for devoted
fans or any who want to learn more about Myers mythology
and the talented filmmakers who brought Michael to the
big screen over eight films . . . and counting!

AOL
Music News Blog posted this quote from HALLOWEEN director
Rob Zombie on why he took on the challenge and what
it will mean for the new film:
"After
thinking for a long time and watching the original over
and over, I thought of a way you could take that story
and retell it totally differently so it wouldn't look
like you were just imitating a movie that already existed.
There was a way to make it fresh. After
I came up with that idea is when I decided to be part
of it."

The
film series official website, HalloweenMovies.com, posted
fan questions for HALLOWEEN director Rob Zombie.
Here's a sample:
Q:
For the next film, are you planning to maybe go into
what Michael's childhood was like and how and why he
became the serial killer he is? Is it at least
going to take place in 1978?
RZ:
Yes, I think this aspect of the story is very important
in order to bring new life to the character of Michael
Myers. The film begins in 1978.
Sounds
like Rob plans to take the best elements of the original
and combine them with the best potential of a remake/sequel
to jump start the franchise in a new, horrifying direction.
Great news for fans!

An
article at MTV Movies quoted director Rob Zombie describing
is vision of HALLOWEEN as "a bit of a prequel
and a remake, combined." Reportedly the story
will dramatize Michael Myers' origins and development
as a serial killer as a youth, before being committed
to a mental institution.

Variety
spoke with Rob Zombie about his consultation with original
HALLOWEEN director, John Carpenter:
"The
original HALLOWEEN is hallowed ground to me, and I talked
to him about it and he was very supportive of what I
wanted to do. He said, 'Go for it, Rob.
Make it your own.' And that's exactly what I intend
to do. Over 25 years and a lot of movies, a very
scary character became something of a Halloween cliche,
with Michael Myers dolls that play the HALLOWEEN music
when you press their stomachs. By the end of the
sequel cycle, there was little connection to the original.
I take that film very seriously, and I want to
make it terrifying again."

At
his MySpace site, Rob Zombie posted this comment in
reply to the rumors he was directing the next HALLOWEEN
film:
"I
am not making Halloween 9. That series is done, complete,
over. But what I am doing is starting totally
from scratch. Call it a remake, an update, a re-imagining
or whatever, but one that for sure is this is a whole
new start — a new beginning with no connection
to the other series. That is exactly why the project
appeals to me. I can take it and run with it."
