4. Rush - Tom Sawyer
5. Bachmann Turner Overdrive - Let It Ride
6. Kiss - God Of Thunder

BLOODY NEW ENDING SHOT FOR HALLOWEEN?

Those reshoots I mentioned days ago at The Blog of Fear are now complete, and the gang at Bloody-Disgusting got the scoop that Rob's fliming has definitely kicked up the terror and body count.  Here's BD's report:

Today ended seven straight days of grueling filming around the Los Angeles area, which included the addition of six, count 'em, six new death sequences! The film has been given a serious boost in violence, gore and bloodshed... but that's not the big news - we received word that an entire new finale has been shot. Details are mum on what is different, but we're told the new ending is quite gruesome!!

Also, THE DEVIL'S REJECT alumni Leslie Easterbrook and Sid Haig also wrapped up some brief cameo shoots in HALLOWEEN.   So far there's no official word about Leslie's role, but according the SidHaig.com he'll play a cemetery caretaker.

BILL MOSELEY ON GUARD IN HALLOWEEN

Bill Moseley

As reported on Bloody-Disgusting.com, actor Bill Moseley will appear in a small role as a security guard in HALLOWEEN.

No official word yet, but we might presume that Bill plays a guard at Smith's Grove.   Fans no doubt recognize Moseley as the torturously evil Otis B. Driftwood in Rob Zombie's HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES and its sequel, THE DEVIL'S REJECTS.   Bill also contributed a quick cameo in Zombie's GRINDHOUSE fake-trailer, Werewolf Women of the SS earlier this year.

HALLOWEEN RETURNS IN ORIGINAL WIDESCREEN FILM FORMAT

Director Rob Zombie confirmed that he filmed his re-imagined HALLOWEEN in the same widescreen film format John Carpenter used in the 1978 original classic.

For a visual comparison of the 2.35:1 aspect ration to standard widescreen film size, read the article at The Blog of Fear.

Also, despite foundless internet rumors, Rob assures fans that his HALLOWEEN will be rated R — not PG-13 — when it arrives in theaters this summer.

TWO NEW PHOTOS

Rob Zombie just released these new character pics direct from production on HALLOWEEN (click for large images)

Annie, Laurie, Lynda

Malcolm McDowell

Danielle looks like she'll have no problem playing a teenager, and Scout looks like spot-on casting for Laurie, reminiscent of Jamie Lee's original character but contemporary too. Kristina certainly brings a different look to Lynda, and presumably a different attitude as well considering how Rob will update her character as well.

Not much I can add to the photo of Malcolm as Dr. Loomis other than this: if the photo is any judge, McDowell's a perfect fit for Loomis. His age and appearance are a fine callback to Donald Pleasence's creation of the part, and I have no doubt McDowell can act the hell out of the part just as well.

Updates should start flowing well now, since Rob and the crew are well past the halfway point of production, with approximately 3 more weeks to go. These new photos are a great boost for fans and followers of HALLOWEEN's progress, and thanks Rob for letting us get a look!

THE NEW MICHAEL

Michael Myers as The Shape in 2007

Rob Zombie just posted the first photo of actor Tyler Mane as the adult Michael Myers in the new Shape mask and costume!

Kudos to effects makeup artist Wayne Toth for creating a grew new version of The Shape mask for HALLOWEEN: consistent and true to the original modified-Kirk mask used in John Carpenter's 1978 original, but also its own look and true to Rob's new vision of Michael Myers.

Click on the image above to open a new window with a larger photo, and check out The Blog of Fear to read more of my commentary on Michael v.2007 plus a new photo of actor Daeg Faerch as young Michael Myers.

CAST UPDATE

Richard Arquette

Richmond Arquette, has joined the cast of HALLOWEEN as Deputy Charles, according to Rob Zombie's lastest blog update.  Arquette's film credits include I HATE YOU, SCREAM 3, FIGHT CLUB and THE HEIST.

Tom Towles

Earlier this weekend Tom Towles, alumnus of Rob Zombie's films HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES and THE DEVIL'S REJECTS, also officially joined the cast of HALLOWEEN.

Tom's role hasn't been announced yet, but he is fresh out of his recent stint filming Rob Zombie's faux-film trailer Werewolf Women of the SS, which appears in GRINDHOUSE this April.

'THE FILMS' UPDATED

My comprehensive recap and review of HALLOWEEN 4: THE RETURN OF MICHAEL MYERS is now online in The Films section.   It joins my articles on the making-of and legacy created by the first three films in the HALLOWEEN series, completing a fan analysis on the first half of the existing franchise.

I'm recapping these movies in release order, so stay tuned as my next addition discussing HALLOWEEN 5 debuts here on The Shape of Fear soon!

Meanwhile, I encourage all HALLOWEEN fans to visit The Blog of Fear and discuss both the previous films and Rob Zombie's HALLOWEEN with me and other horror lovers.

HALLOWEEN FILMING BEGINS

Director Rob Zombie's cameras are now rolling in various Southern California locations as cast and crew begin filming their new adventure in horror, HALLOWEENThe Shape of Fear wishes everyone working on the film the best of luck, and make it scary!

Stay tuned for production news and updates as soon as available!

— January 27 2007 —

THE NEW LAURIE

Director Rob Zombie just announced the young actress he's cast as the new Laurie Strode in HALLOWEEN:

Scout Taylor-Compton

She's Scout Taylor-Compton, an increasingly busy actress with several film and TV roles in her credits who will nonetheless bring a fresh face to the role of Laurie.

It seems like a smart casting move for rob to choose a professional who will provide audiences with a blank slate as the terrified target of brother Michael Myers' lethal rampages.

— January 26 2007 —

HALLOWEEN CASTING

Director Rob Zombie has opened the taps wide on his casting announcements again with the following revelations:

Kristina Klebe

Young Kristina Klebe will play Lynda, the 'totally' sassy teenage friend of Laurie Strode.

Udo Kier

And horror film favorite Udo Kier will appear as Morgan Walker, the head of Smith's Grove Sanitarium where Dr. Loomis attempts to treat his psychotic patient, Michael Myers.

The Shape of Fear will post new updates as we get them!

HALLOWEEN FILMING BEGINS NEXT WEEK

Our inside production source tells The Shape of Fear that Rob Zombie and his crew begin principal photography of HALLOWEEN on Monday, January 29th.

As reported on this site earlier, we have re-confirmed there was NEVER any delay in production on the film, and Monday's start date arrives exactly as scheduled.  That means no script crisis, no last minute script overhauls due to ill-informed net naysayers.

Rob Zombie remains in control and on-time as he and his production team turn Pasadena and other Southern California locations into Haddonfield to continue the saga of Michael Myers.

Production is anticipated to wrap around the end of March or early April at the latest.  But this Monday is the day when HALLOWEEN comes home again!

Stay tuned for more breaking updates and news as The Shape of Fear gets them.

— January 19 2007 —

NEWS, NOT RUMOR

The Shape of Fear has learned from a knowledgeable source close to the production that, as of today, there are NO delays in production or changes for Rob Zombie's HALLOWEEN.

My anonymous source says, "As far as I know, nothing has changed in terms of the start date."

You'll all have to take my word for it, but this source is involved in HALLOWEEN production to the point they would know if Rob had moved back the start date of filming or changed the production/release date of his film.

Some fans may continue to doubt and second guess Rob Zombie with rumors, but I hope this report reassures all fans and filmgoers with up-to-the-minute facts that HALLOWEEN continues on track and on schedule for production in upcoming weeks.

Stay tuned for more breaking updates and news as The Shape of Fear gets them.

— January 16 2007 —

The Shape of Fear and fright fans everywhere join in to wish HALLOWEEN (1978) director John Carpenter a happy birthday.

John Carpenter

Carpenter turns 59 today, and is currently in pre-production on his next film PSYCHOPATH due in 2008.  Happy birthday to a master of horror and an enduringly successful film visionary.

— January 7 2007 —

I've now opened The Films page devoted to Rob Zombie's HALLOWEEN, updated with the current list of officially confirmed actors in their roles.

Stay tuned to the new HALLOWEEN page for continuous updates through the week as Rob makes his final casting announcements, including the starring role of Laurie Strode.

Who will play Laurie??  We'll find out in just a few days.

THE SHAPE RETURNS IN HIS TRUE FORM!

Rob Zombie just posted news on the new Michael Myers/Shape mask to appear in his version of HALLOWEEN:

"I've just seen Wayne Toth's finished mask for Michael and all I can say is "HOLY FUCK". It looks perfect. exactly like the original. Not since 1978 has the shape looked so good. Wayne worked this sucker to death and boy did it pay off."

Wayne Toth is an amazing makeup artist who has done all the effects and mask work in Rob's music videos, concerts and films.

You just know that between Wayne's talent and Rob's reverence for the original John Carpenter film, Michael Myers is TRULY going to come home again in theaters this August!

— January 2 2007 —

Please visit The Blog of Fear to read my new article on the undying rumor that Danielle Harris might be cast as Laurie Strode in Rob Zombie's HALLOWEEN.

Danielle Harris as Laurie?

You'll see my reasons — along with some quotes by Rob himself — why I think she would not get the part even if Rob was considering Danielle for the role.

Feel free to add your own comments after having a look!

— December 24 2006 —

Rob keeps the casting news flying with his announcement that X-MEN actor Tyler Mane will play the adult Michael Myers in HALLOWEEN!

Tyler Mane

Mane has appeared in films like THE SCORPION KING, TROY, and recently as Rufus in THE DEVIL'S REJECTS, but fans will likely know him most as Sabretooth in X-MEN.

Now we await the casting of Laurie Strode to complete the triple play of lead characters in Rob's HALLOWEEN, coming to theaters August 2007.

— December 22 2006 —

Forget IMDB rumors, here is some hard fact breaking news direct from Rob Zombie himself:

Veteran actor Malcolm McDowell will play Doctor Sam Loomis in Rob's upcoming new horror vision HALLOWEEN!

Malcolm McDowell

It's a fascinating choice for the role, and Rob is incredibly exciting about casting one of his favorite actors from one of Rob's favorite films, A CLOCKWORK ORANGE.

You can read more about it on The Blog of Fear and on Rob's Official Halloween Blog >

—December 20 2006 —

Net rumors have run rampant for the last day or two that the Young Michael Myers has been cast for HALLOWEEN.  Many websites and bloggers are citing IMDB as confirmation for this casting news, but that's a giant leap of faith.

As much as I enjoy and use IMDB, it's hardly an official authority on movie credits — especially with films under tight security in pre-production — since it operates on user submissions, and rarely are IMDB users in-the-know so early in production.

The Shape of Fear wants official, accurate confirmation, and we're hoping to get it for you soon, fans!  Stay tuned.

There's a new pre-production update from Rob Zombie's Halloween blog at MySpace:

He says the script is now DONE and he's scouting locations for production.  Rob reports he just found "an amazing place for the setting of Smith's Grove Sanitarium."

This supports Rob's earlier interview statements that he would make Michael Myers the star of his HALLOWEEN, and show more of the events that made Michael become The Shape.

It certainly suggests that Dr. Sam Loomis will have more to do in Rob's script too.  Be sure to visit The Blog of Fear and make your suggestions for which actor might be great to cast as Dr. Loomis.

UPDATE ON ROB ZOMBIE HOSTING TCM UNDERGROUND:

Many fans (including myself) have been wondering why Rob's hosting segments for TCM Underground have disappeared from recent Friday night airings of the cult cinema showcase...

The answer is simple, but still disappointing: Rob only shot 13 segments, and those weekly episodes have run their course.

Turner Classic Movies continues with TCM Underground each Friday night, but sadly without Rob offering his insightful commentary.

To Rob, I say it was fun while it lasted, brother!  You were a terrific choice for host of TCMU due to your knowledge and affection for these cult flicks.  Many were films I'd seen often before, but you introduced me to some new movies which I enjoyed catching after all these years.

Now go knock HALLOWEEN outta the park, Rob!

— January 1 2007 —

Fango recently got the tipoff that Rob is directing one of the fictional film trailers to appear in the double-feature "intermission" of Quentin Tarantino and Rober Rodriguez's upcoming GRINDHOUSE.

Rob is shooting a fake coming attraction trailer for the non-existent film "Werewolf Women of the SS", rumored to feature Nicolas Cage playing the inscrutable FuManchu.

If you haven't heard of GRINDHOUSE yet, be sure to visit the Dimension Films official site and view the preview trailer, which is currently exclusive to Yahoo Movies.

While Rob's trailer is only a small part of this high-concept film, I know fans will want to see it, so The Shape of Fear will follow news on this project as it develops — stay tuned!

PROGRAMMING REMINDER:

This Friday the 27th Rob hosts his third installment of TCM Underground on Turner Classic Movies channel with two pre-Halloween treats:

NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD

First up is George Romero's 1968 watershed zombie classic Night of the Living Dead, which is mandatory viewing for any respectiable horror fan.  They're dead, they're... all messed up!

The second cult follow-up is Romero's 1973 lesser-known and even lesser-seen The Crazies, in which an experimental virus turns citizens of  a small town into crazed killers.

Tune in to see these great Romero films and hear Rob's horror-savvy insights into these cult favorites.

HALLOWEEN CASTING RUMOR

Tonight's DVD_TV presentation of HALLOWEEN on the AMC channel hinted that Rob Zombie might well cast actress P.J. Soles — Lynda in the original 1978 film — to participate in his 2007 filmed 'prequel' of HALLOWEEN.

P.J. Soles

While there is absolutely nothing official about this speculation, the possibility makes sense: we know Rob is a huge fan of 1970s actors and horror films, and loves to pay homage to them in his own movies.

Plus, Rob already has a working relationship with P.J. Soles, having cast her in last year in The Devil's Rejects.

Rob Zombie's HALLOWEEN is currently in pre-production casting, so stay tuned to see if P.J. or any other veterans from John Carpenter's classic return to Haddonfield and the big screen next October.

Fangoria magazine published this quote from Rob Zombie about hosting TCM Underground for Turner Classic Movies:

"Because Turner doesn't have commercial breaks, I'm bookending the films.  And in some instances there will be double features, so there I'll have more segments.  What I'll do is very similar to what Osborne does for Turner: I'll come out, tell a few stories and anecdotes, we'll show the movie and then I'll wrap it up.  I've seen all the films before many, many times, so I knew a lot of facts about them already, and Turner's people helped out a bit in the research process."

No doubt fans will never confuse Rob Zombie with Robert Osborne, except maybe in their vast knowledge of film history.  Stay tuned to FilmEdge coverage of HALLOWEEN News for exact showtimes of Rob's series.
